Mount Tongariro!

In New Zealand! By: Katie King

Where is this Mount Tongariro?

Mount Tongariro is in central North Island, New Zealand (Although you probably already figured out the New Zealand part from the title slide). It is 39.1333 degrees south and is 175.6500 degrees east. The nearest towns are Turangi and Ohakune and the nearest city is Auckland. Below is a map of where it is, to aid you in your quest to figure out where in the world Im talking about:

What About It?

Mount Tongariro is 6,490 feet, or 1,978 meters, tall. Mount Tongariro is actually a group of cinder cone volcanoes, but are apparently considered to be together. It most recently (or they most recently) erupted on November 20, 2012. The eruption may have been caused by a series of over 20 small earthquakes. This series of earthquakes started in July but the amount quickly declined, but the earthquakes started again around August, and August is kind of close to November. The earthquakes happened right below Mount Tongariro, and below is a map of Mount Tongariro:

New Zealand
Earlier on, I mentioned that Mount Tongariro was in New Zealand. Now Im going to give you some information about the area! There are many industries in New Zealand, such as growth, automotive, and seafood. Also, bone art is some of the native art of New Zealand. Bone art was made by the Maori people who often made the works of art to keep their history alive. Below is a picture of some of the art:
