Wellington
Wellington
• Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and also of the
region of Wellington, located to the south of the North Island
(North Island), of which Wellington is the main city. It was
founded in the late 1830s and has approximately 418,500
inhabitants.
Wellington
• The city is situated next to a natural harbor, in hanging hills
and green. The region is subject to frequent earthquakes and
almost destroyed the city in the years 1848 and 1855. There
are few flat areas, so most of the city's population lives in the
surrounding hillsides, in areas at risk due to seismic activities.
Due to strong winds blowing in the city from the Cook Strait,
the city is known to New Zealanders as ‘Windy Wellington’.
Wellington
• The city is an important commercial and financial center in
New Zealand. It is also an important cultural center of the
country. In terms of sport, the city is home to the rugby team
Hurricanes that plays for the Super Rugby league and the
main stadium is Westpac Stadium. In relation to music, the
city is known for its great nightlife.
