NASCAR Is Back Home in Charlotte for the Running of the All-Star Race

(Concord, NC.) The Charlotte Motor Speedway will, host the 29th Annual Sprint All-Star race on Saturday, May 18th at 7PM featuring the sports best drivers competing for a $2 million dollar purse. The race will feature 22 drivers competing in 5 segments, designed to bring out the best in each driver. The Sprint Showdown runs immediately before the AllStar to determine the final 3 drivers to advance. 19 drivers have qualified for the All-Star and 3 more will advance from the Showdown. To qualify, a driver must have won a race in the past two seasons, a NASCAR Championship within the past ten years, or by having won the All-Star event within the past ten years. The 1st and 2nd finishers of the Sprint Showdown will advance to the main event along with one more driver who will be voted in by the fans. The Showdown is a 40 lap race, made up of 23 drivers who are not already in the main event. The All-Star race will be broken down into four 20 lap segments with a final 10 lap segment for the win. The top four positions to start the final 10 laps will be decided by the average finishing position from the first four segments. Famous for the 1987 battle between Dale Earnhardt and Bill Elliot that gave us the pass in the grass; the All-Star event has always provided exciting races. Charlotte Motor Speedway is the home track for many drivers and teams and is The Greatest place to see the race. The Sprint Cup Series features the worlds b est 43 drivers going after a championship over 36 races on 23 tracks. Charlotte Motor Speedway was built in 1959 and is located in Concord, NC and owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc. CMS is also the home of the Coke 600 which is the longest race of the NASCAR season.
