THE STORY OF ISIS AND OSIRIS

The legend says that the god Osiris was the son of the sky goddess, Nut, and the Earth god, Geb. A long time ago, before the first pharaohs governed Egypt, Osiris was a great king. Osiris taught the Egyptians to cultivate the land, produce wine, extract metals from the ground and make useful objects with them Osiris married her sister Isis. She was a great witch and her supernatural powers helped Osiris to make his inventions. In addition, Isis replaced her husband in the government when he was absent. But Seth, Osiris brother, was very jealous and spent all his time plotting against his brother. One day, Seth ordered a decorated chest, with the same size as Osiris body. Then, Seth gave a big party and he invited his brother and seventy-two guests who were in fact his accomplices. During the party, Seth invited all of them to play a game: everyone should get into the chest and he would give it to the one whose body fitted it the best. Everyone tried but only Osiris fitted perfectly and, when he was in the chest, Seths accomplices locked it and threw it to the river Nile. After that, Isis desperately began to look for her husbands body. But Osiris body had been divided into many pieces and it took her a long time to find them all. She finally found them, she joined them all together and Osiris rose from the Dead. Then Osiris decided that he would be the king again, the king of the land of the Dead. Isis and Osiris had a son, Horus, who fought against Seth in many wars. Finally, Seth became the god of the darkness, and Horus was the God of alive people. Hes considered to be the ancestor of the first pharaoh, Narmer.
