TASK P4/M3 a) FUNCTIONS OF THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM This is made up of glands which produce chemical messengers called hormones.

These are released into the blood stream and transported to the part of the body where they are needed. A change in the internal or external environment results in either the secretion of a chemical or stopping its secretion. On secretion, the chemical travels in the lymph and blood all over the body but affects only certain target tissues (effectors).

c) How a stimulus leads to a response in a response mediated by the endocrine system

They are directly related. Homeostasis is an environments ability to maintain stability in a regular cycle, but when something new is introduced, the environment is able to respond to a new occurrence, or stimulus, and responds in order to survive and return to maintaining a normal cycle. Without response to a new stimulus, environments would be unable to maintain homeostasis and would die out! TASK P5 a. What is meant by the term homeostasis and its importance to the human body Homeostasis means , to maintain internal stability, owing to the coordinated response of its parts to any situation or stimulus tending to disturb its normal condition or function. Cells depend on the body environment to live and function. Homeostasis keeps the body environment under control and keeps the conditions right for cells to live and function. Without the right body conditions, certain processes (e.g. osmosis) and proteins (e.g. enzymes) will not function properly. Four examples where homeostatic mechanisms are involved Positive feedback Negative feedback Osmoregulation Heart rate TASK D3 a. How malfunction in secretion can lead to a disorder
