CLEAN ENERGY DEAL REACHED FOR SCHOOLS

SACRAMENTO, CA Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) announced today the Governor and both houses of the Legislature reached an agreement on how to best implement Proposition 39 to provide crucial energy upgrades at schools across the states while creating green jobs. Each and every school district across California will benefit under the agreement we reached with the Governor on Proposition 39, Skinner said. Californians get jobs improving energy efficiency at our schools, and the savings on energy bills will put cash back in the classroom. Skinner continued, This agreement takes a key element from my bill, Assembly Bill 39, to expand a highlysuccessful loan program that will allow districts to augment funds and tackle very large and deep energy retrofit projects or installations. To implement the nearly $2.5 billion proposition intended to create jobs and improve schools, Skinner said the agreement ensures:
Funding for clean energy projects at schools and community colleges across the state and helps train and employ Californias growing clean energy workforce. Ensures all school districts have access to sufficient funds for deep retrofits and can commission projects that lead to real employment opportunities for Californias workers. Ensures up-front accountability and requires schools to demonstrate to the state how they will use their clean energy funds Expands clean energy job training and placement programs Ensures retrofit projects and energy savings benefit students and provide improved educational opportunities Ensures even the smallest districts have access to technical assistance and resources Weights spending to benefit students at schools who need it most.
