Breast Exam Instructions 1. Stand in front of a mirror.

Inspect
the breasts for overall shape, skin dimpling/puckering/discoloration, nipple placement (in or out). 2. Stand or lie at. 3. Raise the arm and place it behind the head. 4. Using the pads of the ngers, glide rmly across the entire breast in spokes on a wheel pattern. 5. Gently squeeze the nipple to check for any discharge 6. Drop the arm and examine the armpit 7. Repeat with the other breast

Reminders for the Monthly Breast Exam


- Become familiar with what is normal
- Exam should be done on the same day once a month - preferably 1-2 days after a menstrual cycle or the same day of the month - Can be done either standing up or lying down - Either soap (standing) or lotion (lying down) should be used to help glide the hand across the breast - Report any discrete, mobile, rm, or xed masses or unusual nipple discharge to your health care provider
