SMCS - 7610-038-DTN Conditions Which Generate This Code: CAT DATA LINK The CID 0248 FMI 09 diagnostic code is used by the Transmission/Chassis ECM as a companion diagnostic code that is activated simultaneously with another control module diagnostic code in order to indicate that the Cat Data Link has an abnormal condition. The FMI 09 will match the FMI 09 that is activated for the control module diagnostic code. The FMI 09 means that the Transmission/Chassis ECM has lost all communication with the other control module. The CID 0248 FMI 09 diagnostic code will never be activated by the Transmission/Chassis ECM as a stand-alone diagnostic code. The Transmission/Chassis ECM will only activate the CID 0248 FMI 09 diagnostic code along with one of the following module communication codes. CID 0588 FMI 09 - Monitoring System CID 0596 FMI 09 - Implement ECM CID 0590 FMI 09 - Engine ECM For example, if the Transmission/Chassis ECM detects that no communication is being received from the Implement ECM over the Cat Data Link, the Implement ECM will simultaneously activate a CID 0596 FMI 09 (Implement ECM) diagnostic code and a CID 0248 FMI 09 (Cat Data Link) diagnostic code. If the Transmission/Chassis ECM did not activate the companion diagnostic code CID 0248 FMI 09 along with the control module code, the technician would not know which data link circuit (Cat Data Link or J1939 Data Link) is involved.
