Due to a season of particularly high tides, the small seaside town of St Bees, Cumbria suffered considerable damage- the revetment wall was breached in three places. This put not only the town in danger, but also the railway above. Railtrack had envisaged that work needed to be done in the area, but the breaching meant that the problems had to be addressed immediately. Railtrack required a rapid solution to a length of track that had been undermined. The solution required a tough, damage resistant geotextile that could be placed quickly and would retain a high flow characteristic even when loaded with 3 - 4 tonne rocks. The agent for Christianni and Niellson stated that the GEOfabrics HP6 performed exceptionally well.
