Summer Reading and Writing
Prepare a data sheet for each required work, taking notes as you are reading. At the
beginning, note the original date of publication and three or four facts about the author, citing
your source. Beginnings are important, so take a few notes as to how the author introduces
setting and characters.
As you are reading, take a few notes on each chaptercritical events and people. Your
impressions are important. (AP students, we impute to you the sense to make modified use of the
form for the Thomas Sowell text.)
At the end, use the indicated space to offer an opinion as to the theme, and tell me why you
think what you think.
Please do note that each of these data sheets will count for a grade; thus, you may begin the
new school year with five As, five zeroes or some combination thereof. You should mail or
bring the first sheet to school by June 30, the second and third sheets by July 15 and the fourth
and fifth by July 30. Yes, your last sheets are due before the lower schools are.
