THEME: A FAITHFUL SERVANT TOPIC: TIMOTHY: A FAITHFUL SERVANT TEXT: 1ST CORINTHIANS 4: 1-7 INTRODUCTION: Timothy, though young and from mixed parents, (Acts16:1), was a devoted follower of Paul in his missionary journeys. He was such a dedicated believer and one that stood for the truth of Gods words that Paul had to appoint him as the leader of the Church in Ephesus, where there were all sorts of strange doctrines. Paul had earlier warned about these doctrines in Acts 20:28-30, it was Timothy that was faithful enough to be considered to go there and establish the Church. May God find us faithful to commit the mysteries of the kingdom to us as we study in Jesus name. 1. THE MAN TIMOTHY. - He was a convert of Paul. 1st Tim. 1:2,18 - He lived and worked at a time when wrong doctrines filled everywhere. 1st Tim. 1:3, 6:20 - He was a young Church leader in Ephesus. 1st Tim. 1:3 - He followed and faithfully understudied Paul. Philemon 1:1, 1st Cor. 4:17b - He was ready to learn. 1st Tim. 6:11-14 - He was imprisoned for Christ. Heb. 13:23 - He had a good testimony before others. 1st Thess. 3:2, 1st Cor. 16:10b, Acts 16:1-2 2. CHARACTER TRAITS OF TIMOTHY - His mother and grandmother were women of faith. 2nd Tim. 1:5 - He associated with men of Faith. 2nd Tim. 1:6, 4:14 - He was a model for others. 2nd Tim. 4:12 - He followed Christs ways. 2nd Tim. 4:16 3. HOW FAITHFUL WAS TIMOTHY? - He stood with Paul during hard times. Philemon 1:1 - A faithful teacher of the word. 1st Cor. 4:17 - He was never a deserter, with his own agenda. Phil. 2:19-22 4. CAN WE EMULATE HIM? YES! - In standing steadfast in faith. 1st Tim. 6:12 - In enduring afflictions in the gospel. 1st Thess. 3:3-4 - In overcoming fear while faced with challenges. 1st Cor. 16:10, 2nd Tim. 1:7 - In working the works of God. John 9:4, Eccl. 9:10 CONCLUSION: How faithful are you, to God, to the Church, the leaders and to Gods works? Will Jesus say to you well done faithful servant when you meet Him? Let us pray!!!
