Application Procedures (September 2013 Admission)


1. Documents to be submitted Please refer to the checklist on the next page and ensure ALL required documents are submitted. Some of the required documents are included in this PDF. * Please fill in all forms electronically in this PDF, where possible, and print double-sided. * All signatures and seals must be original. 2. Important points for application A) All submitted documents should be written in either Japanese or English and printed on A4-size paper using PDF or word-processing software. If documents are written in any other language, it is necessary to include an English or Japanese translation. B) The name and birthday on all documents must be the same as that on your passport. C) The University will not return and of the documents once they have been received, under any circumstances, regardless of their completeness or the results of your application. D) Ritsumeikan may not accept applications unless all required documents are included. All documents must be sent by express post and arrive no later than the deadline. E) Documents such as thesis summaries should be concise summaries of your thesis contents F) If it is determined that your application documents contain any deliberate falsifications or forgeries, your application will not pass the examination 3. Document Checklist: (Forms 1, 2, 3, 4, and 11 are included in this PDF). Please print all forms double-sided.

*Documents 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 ,6, 7, and 11 must be original versions. Documents will be accepted as original if they bear the original, authorized seal of the issuing agency. (The seal must be original. Photocopied seals will not be accepted). All forms and documents must be in English or Japanese or accompanied by an English or Japanese translation. 1. This form must be completed in the language in which your program is taught (English or Japanese), *The "Field of Study" should outline your intended field, while "Study Program" should detail your individual research plans and progression during your degree.

5. Letter of Recommendation by the dean, or a person of higher position, at the applicants school or institution (must be addressed to the "President of Ritsumeikan University, Japan")
*Please be sure the appropriate titles of the sender and addressee are included.

*Certificate must explain correspondence of marks to merit (Outstanding/ excellent/ good/ satisfactory/ fail, etc.) *You must submit grades from your two most recent years of study in pursuit of a degree, indicated clearly.

6. Original certificate of grades from most recent acadmic institution attended (Undergraduate or Graduate degree program), with clear explanation of grading/ marking system covering at least two years, divided by year and semester.

7. Original certificate of graduation (or expected graduation) from most recent academic institution attended (Undergraduate or Graduate degree program) 8. Concise summary of thesis written for most recent degree awarded *attached to Application Form (2) 9. Copy of photo and all information pages from applicants passport, if applicable, or other government-issued family registry or citizenship registry copy (must show applicants full, legal name) 10. Copies of certificates of language proficiency (e.g. TOEFL , TOEIC , Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) Japanese as a Foreign Language section, Japan Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), etc.) 11. Certificate of Health (Please use the attached form, or one with identical contents) 12. Three (3) passport- quality photographs of applicant (taken within 6 months, 4.5 cm tall x 3.5 cm wide, full-faced, chest-up, with no hats or caps). Write applicants name and nationality on reverse of each photo and attach to application forms in the designated locations. 13. *In order to become full-time degree seeking students, research students may, during their research term, take the entrance examination of the graduate school in which they are enrolled. If this exam is passed, and all appropriate entrance procedures are completed, it is possible for research students to become degree-seeking student at the same graduate school. Notice
2436 It may be possible for research students who have demonstrated exceptional grades and wish to enter into a Ritsumeikan University Masters or Doctoral course to extend their scholarship award until the completion of their masters program (24 months) or doctoral program (36 months) if they meet standards for enrollment and pass a rigorous evaluation by Monbukagakusho. (Scholarship extension in this case is not guaranteed.) However, students already enrolled in Masters course studies are unable to extend their scholarship award to doctoral studies upon completion of their masters program.
