V2 is the safety climb speed,. For climb to acc'l height (1000AGL) use V2+10 knts. Vr is your rotation speed, and V1 is your decision speed on takeoff roll, after V1 you are committed to t/o. Vref30+80 is the minimum clean (flaps retracted) speed for Boeings

If no contingencies are exercised, this is the typical amount of fuel on board at touchdown. Usually at least 1.5 hrs cruise fuel, a good crosscheck.

(no contingency use)

If no contingencies are exercised, this will be the landing weight, ensure that it does not exceed the maximum landing weight.

Vref+5 is the target speed only for a full autoland approach, the A/T will provide gust protection. For any other approach, the speed needs to be further adjusted. Specify the landing winds, this will add to Vref+5, of the steady headwind, plus the full excess gust; to a max of 20 additional knts.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

This Fuel & VSpeed Planner is targeted for those individuals that do not have custom planners and data for their aircraft, or just want something quick and easy to use. The UVA FVP will allow you to input the various required factors for your flight, and issue you a Minimum Landing Fuel amount, as well as an Expected Landing Fuel, and a Total Fuel Required amount which can then be used to load the aircraft for your flight. It will also advise on aircraft weights, and ensure that you are within operational limits. Finally it suggests the flaps to use for takeoff and landing, together with a calculation of the Vspeeds, your target speeds for takeoff and landing. This FVP is designed to be used with any aircraft which has a model accurately representing the average fuel burn of the listed aircraft. The following is a list of step by step instructions, data is only entered in the red outlined grey rectangles. #1. Select Aircraft Type (aircraft data will continue to be tweaked, and we expect to have Vspeeds for the entire fleet in a future update.) #2. Input length of flight in Trip Length box. (see definition on how to properly input flight time) #3. Input Winds aloft Correction (see definition on how to properly input wind) #4. Input Alternate Fuel (see definition on how to properly input alternate time) #5. Input Contingency Fuel (see definition on how to properly input contingency fuel) #6. Input Captain's Fuel (see definition on how to properly input Captain's fuel) #7. Enter the payload weight that you are planning to carry Specify the payload as a percentage of maximum, or enter a weight in pounds. To enter a percentage, the pounds cell must be set to zero. For most aircraft, you cannot carry both a maximum payload and maximum fuel capacity. This is an issue for longer trips. Once the above has been entered, the FVP will calculate the required totals, and issue the fuel and weight totals. The first total is the Minimum Landing Fuel. This amount is the FAR required fuel amount that should be remaining in the aircraft upon landing. The second total is the Plan Fuel Required. This amount will be the amount of total fuel that you put in the aircraft for the flight. It will also advise an Expected Landing Fuel, if no contingencies are exercised. Also calculated is the Plan Takeoff Weight and Expected Landing Weight. Ensure that you do not exceed the maximums. If you have any warnings in the Advice column, you may have to adjust down your payload for the trip, or other factors, to stay within operational limits. Only adjust the payload down if you receive warnings. Finally note that the Vspeeds for takeoff (V1, Vr, V2) and for landing (Vref) are calculated, for the suggested flap settings. Vref30+80 at takeoff, is the Vref for flaps 30 for your takeoff weight. For Boeings, adding 80 knots to this figure will give you your minimum safe speed for flying with no flaps extended, or your Minimum Clean Speed. With flaps retracted, you should fly at least 10 to 20 knts over this speed, for safety. #8. Enter the landing winds, you may not have this available until shortly before landing. For a coupled A/P driven ILS approach, or a hand flown approach, the final corrected Vref speed should be used as your approach speed from the Final Approach Fix, to the runway threshold. Shortly after this point, you will flare the aircraft, and land. Your landing speed should be ideally (Vref + Gusts), but in any case, never less than (Vref 10) knts. Only advanced payware panels have true autoland capability. Such an approach is used in very poor visibility conditions, where a landing couldn't otherwise be safely accomplished. For a full autoland approach, (Vref + 5) is used for the approach speed, as with a true autoland there is gust protection.
