ARTIST BIO

Ruth Ann Sturgill

Painting en plein air is the ultimate artist experience. There is such an amazing, almost spiritual, connection between subject and artist when the painting is done from life. I cannot explain it with words, but I believe it comes through in the finished painting .

The artist has painted numerous works in various mediums, but her favorite medium is oils. Ruth Ann paints most of her landscapes on location, en plein air. She has always had a great love for the outdoors and has found a winning combination of getting to create art while soaking up the everchanging ambiance that nature so freely offers; be it sunshine, rain, fog or snow. Battling the elements is a big part of the total experience.

The artist has traveled across the U.S. and Canada teaching workshops and has studied under notable artists such as Joe Fettingis, Fredric Del Guidace, Daniel Greene and at the Liliedahl School of Fine Art in Houston, where she earned certification in landscape and still life.

Her work can be found in many private, as well as corporate collections. Several of her original designed and hand painted ornaments are a part of the permanent collection of The White House, and the Governor of Ohios residence. The artist is a member of Oil painters of America, serves as vice president of the Ohio Plein Air Society, is a founding member of The Potpourri of Painters Society, and is the founder and executive director of The Visual Arts Network. Ruth Ann also has served as VP of the Ohio Plein Air Society. She served for a number of years on the exhibition committee of ArtSpace Lima and currently is responsible for installing exhibitions there, as well as in the satellite gallery, at St. Ritas Medical Center.
