Th e idea of a new, larger fi re hall for Rapid City has been floating around for a number of years. Fundraising is now underway with hopes of this becoming a reality in the next couple of years.
By SARAH DALRYMPLE apid City Emergency Services hosted a Spud-BudBBQ Pork Supper on Saturday, June 15th. Th e BBQ was a fundraiser for a new fire hall to be located in Rapid City, north of the existing Rapid City Library. This idea has been in motion for almost 15 years. Th e current Rapid City Fire Hall, located at the back of the Town Offi ce, is very small. Firefi ghters often have to put their gear on outside as there is not enough room to do this inside. While it is still too early to tell what the new building will look like and the type of facilities it will contain, the local firefighters are presenting a firm commitment to the project. Th e new fi re hall will be more user friendly and will also suit the needs of the firefi ghters. It could still be a couple years before anything is carved in stone, but firefi ghters hope to show their dedication as well as raise awareness for the new project by holding events like this.
