1. You are the marketing research manager of BPCL. Management has asked you to assess the demand potential for MS and HSD in UP. What sources of secondary data should you consult? What kind of information would you expect to obtain from each source? Explain the role of secondary data in this project. Prepare a report.

2. Following the methods outlined in the text, develop a plan for conducting a focus group to determine students attitude toward and preferences for sector specific program (i.e. MBA in Oil and Gas). Specify the objectives of the focus group, write a screening questionnaire, and develop a moderators outline.

3. Suppose Castrol oil wants to know why some people do not change engine oil regularly. Develop a cartoon test for that purpose and administer it on at least 5 people. Prepare a report.

4. Using secondary sources, obtain sales of petroleum products and the sales of the major firms of this industry for the last five year. Estimate the market shares of each major firm. From another source, obtain information on the market shares of these same firms. Do the two estimates match? Prepare a report.

5. A cosmetics firm would like to increase its penetration of the female student market. It hires you as a consultant to obtain an understanding and preliminary insights into the attitudes, purchases, and use of cosmetics by female students. Conduct at least three depth interviews. Employ the construction technique as well. Do your findings from the two techniques agree? If not, try to reconcile the discrepancy.
