Important Quotes
“Off in the entrance hall the great king made his bed,
spreading out on the ground the raw hide of an ox” (pg.410
lines 1-2) Odysseus has to sleep on the floor on a ox hide in
his own house because he is disguised as a beggar.
“The suitors were plotting certain doom for the young
prince”(pg. 318 lines 268-269) All of the suitors want to kill
Telemachus. They think everything would be easier with him
out of the way.
“You suitors, control yourselves. No insults now, no brawling,
no, or it’s war between us all” (pg.419 lines 495-96)
Telemachus is showing that he is becoming more and more
of a man everyday. He is sick of the suitors. It might also be
because he knows Odysseus is right there if they try to
attack him.
“Grabbing an oxhoof out of a basket where it lay, with a
brawny hand he flung it straight at the king”(pg 420 lines
335-36) Ctesippus threw a oxhoof at Odysseus which really
is the final action that makes Odysseus go nuts.
Overview
Odysseus thinks about killing all of the suitors. He does
not know whether he should do it one at a time or all at the
same time. The anger he was built up inside him is
remarkable. Athena helps Odysseus get mad and stay mad.
Penelope wants to die but she does not. Odysseus is up the
entire time she in angry or mad because he is not with her
and the suitors are really starting to be annoying.
