Typographic Conventions
Type Style Example Text Represents Words or characters that appear on the screen. These include field names, screen titles, pushbuttons as well as menu names, paths and options. Cross-references to other documentation Example text Emphasized words or phrases in body text, titles of graphics and tables Names of elements in the system. About this Document


Purpose
This document provides an overview of Maintenance Optimizer and refers you to the required detailed documentation. The Maintenance Optimizer in SAP Solution Manager guides you through the procedure for planning and downloading SAP support packages and patches for your systems. All corrective software packages, including Support Packages (Stacks) for SAP NetWeaver 2004s and subsequent versions, as well as all applications which are based on this software (including SAP Business Suite 2005), released after April 2, 2007, will be available exclusively through the Maintenance Optimizer in SAP Solution Manager. Installation
Install the latest version of SAP Solution Manager. Refer to the Installation Guide on SAP Service Marketplace (service.sap.com/instguides SAP Components SAP Solution Manager <current release>). You should take sizing into consideration if you plan to use more SAP Solution Manager Scenarios. For sizing prerequisites see the SAP Solution Manager Sizing Guide on SAP Service Marketplace (service.sap.com/instguides SAP Components SAP Solution Manager <current release>).

Configuration
The following table is a step-by-step description for transaction SPRO SAP Reference IMG SAP Solution Manger Implementation Guide SAP Solution Manager Configuration Basic Settings. Follow the IMG documentation of each step listed.

Following these steps you only configure the Maintenance Optimizer. You do not configure any other functionality for SAP Solution Manager. If you intend to use further SAP Solution Manager Scenarios, such as EarlyWatch Alert or Diagnostics, use the guided procedure for automatic basic settings configuration using transaction SOLMAN_SETUP. For a Scenario description,

see the Master Guide for SAP Solution Manager (see section Planning Information). Assign S-User

If you do not maintain the S-User correctly, the following error message appears in the application: No S-User is assigned to your user. If you have more than one SAP customer number, you have to assign the correct S-user to the customer numbers (see IMG documentation Step 4).

Maintain System Landscape

If you already use an SLD in your system landscape, we recommend connecting the SLD (see IMG path). If you do not use an SLD, perform the necessary steps for individual systems manually by choosing transaction SMSY choose Create New System with Assistant in the context menu of Systems in the hierarchical tree on the left (only for ABAP-based main instances). Follow the steps in the wizard (you do not need to generate RFC connections, but you must assign logical components). If you have connected your SLD in step 6, perform both IMG activities under this subnode. If you have maintained your system landscape manually, you only have to perform the IMG activity Define a Solution.

Create Users for Maintenance Optimizer and Assign Authorizations

In transaction SU01, create system users for users who work with Maintenance Optimizer. In transaction PFCG, assign the roles SAP_MAINT_OPT_ADMIN and SAP_SM_SOLUTION_ALL with full authorization to your users (note: copy the roles, maintain the authorizations, generate the profiles and perform a user comparison). More information: Security Guide (see section Planning Information).

You have now configured SAP Solution Manager Maintenance Optimzer.

Using the Maintenance Optimizer


To use the Maintenance Optimizer, call transaction Solution_Manager Operations Change Management Maintenance Optimizer Maintenance Transaction. Follow the steps in the guided procedure. <your solution> Create New

If you receive the error message You are not authorized to perform the activity selected last, check step 8. If you receive the error message No S-User is assigned to your user, check step 5. Always log on to the SAP Support Portal with the same S-User which is assigned to your Solution Manager user.

Maintenance Optimizer

You can also access the Maintenance Optimizer via the Change Management work center. In this case you have to configure the work center functionality (transaction SPRO SAP Reference IMG SAP Solution Manger Implementation Guide SAP Solution Manager Scenario-Specific Settings Change Control Setup Work Center for Change Request Management).
