Sally believes that Darwinian evolution can explain why one species of butterfly has larger wings than another species of butterfly. Why should the theory of evolution count as an authoritative scientific explanation? What sort of checklist is necessary for a view to count as scientific? Is there even such a checklist? Throughout history, theories that scientists confidently held as true turned out to be false and were replaced with new theories. Should the fact that theories are replaced by new ones diminish the confidence we have in the theoretical approchaes that we currently hold as true?
