Internship Presentations guidelines

The following points are intended to help you in preparing your presentation. The list is also used as a check list at the try-out presentation. This same list is also used as a check list for grading your final presentation. The try-out at STU is compulsory. During this try-out speakers have to be critical of the technical content of each others presentation. Speakers have 15 minutes, including discussion. Students who did Internship Extra have 30 minutes, including discussion. Minimum net speaking time (that is without discussion) is 10 minutes (Internship Extra 20 minutes). This means that if the time is shorter, the presentation will have to be repeated on another day/month.

Presentations consist of three parts: introduction, project, reflection Introduction (3-4 slides) includes title, your personal learning objectives, your motivation for company destination and subject, and some company details, how you obtained the internship. Project (4-5 slides) explains the assignment, why it was initiated, what your objectives were, tasks carried out, experimental setup, tools & techniques used, deliverables delivered, results obtained, conclusions drawn. Reflection (3-4 slides) includes your personal experience. Refer back to your personal learning objectives. What were the pros and cons of the internship (content, company and location). How has your internship lead to future plans? You are not allowed to mention that some aspects of the internship are confidential (except when answering a direct question) Target audience: all attendants want to know whether your internship is something for them, or not, and why. But there is more, because students from all tracks are present. Those doing your track should not be bored by lack of technical content; those doing the other tracks should learn something about yours. The presentation should be both personal, original and entertaining, and not a repetition of the presentation of the previous student who did a comparable project at the same company. Your try-out presentation should be emailed to STU well before the try-out date: i.q.m.v.dongen@tue.nl
