Grading
Your final grade for this class will be based on the following weighted point
allocation:

§ You will get F in this course in case of one of the followings:


•When your total point is less than 50%.
•When you are involved in any plagiarism and cheating
•When you are absent from five or more sessions

Attendance, Participation, and Etiquette (APE)
} Out of the maximum points for APE, 100;
} 70 points are for attendance and 30 are for participation/etiquette
} I will cut down 7 points per your absence, 3 points per your lateness from 70 for
the attendance point.
} At the end of course, I’ll evaluate your participation/etiquette and evaluate
individual students from zero to 30

} Ifa student is unable to attend a class due to some problems, such


as a sickness, or learning disability, please notify me prior to the
class. The student should send a document to prove it.

} Your submission for these activities will not be evaluated, but can be discussed in
class.

} Three Assignments
} IA 1: One-page write-up for self-introduction
} IA 2: One-page write-up for business models of IT firms
} IA 3: Building and publishing web pages to share students’
favorites/recommendations

Exams
} Closed-book and closed-note exam
} The test will assess your mastery over the terminology and concepts
that are covered in class and the text
} Test for your knowledge about keywords and concepts, not for creativity
} The exam contains questions of multiple choices and short answers.
} Makeup exams will not be given unless under legitimate excuses.

Teams for PISC and Project
} 5 member team
} The instructor will help students to form a
group
} If
you have classmates who want to work in a same
team, give the instructor the list in-person via email
after the first session
} At
the end of the semester, I may ask you a
peer evaluation
} The purpose of the peer evaluation is to find out not
a significant contributor but a free-rider
} The student who turn out to be a free-rider in a
team will get a lower score than other team
members

Presentation of IT Startup Cases (PISC)
} Each team is expected to select an IT startup (You may pick an IT
firm that had failed as well.)
} You can search with keywords such as “successful startups”, “top startups”
} The purpose of this presentation is to share interesting and
informative cases of IT startups with the class.
} The presentation should not exceed 15 minutes and the number of
slides should not exceed 25 pages.
} Announce your team’s case onto the billboard of eTL as soon as you
select a case. The firm for the case study should not be duplicated.
First come first serve!!!
} Upload your presentation file onto the billboard of eTL by at least
two hours before your scheduled presentation.
} The name of the file you upload should be: [name of IT
startups]_[team number].pptx (ex. Square_Team5.pptx)

Presentation of IT Startup Cases (PISC)
} Each presentation will contain 5 parts:
} Part 1: address the selected IT startup, stories of founders, and its main
service or product
} Part 2: address its key business models
} Part 3: address key technologies that are used for its business
} Part 4: address the performance of the firm
} Part 5: discuss about the performance (why it has been successful or why
it failed)
} I expect all members to participate in the presentation.
} You can use data or contents of articles published
online or offline in your presentation. However, the
source should be cited in the presentation slide.
} Key points of the presentation and discussion can be
covered in exams.
} Your team apply a creative format for the presentation
(e.g., TV program format, drama format, News interview,
etc).

} Grading Criteria
} The case study is interesting and informative. (50%)
} Clarity of major ideas, Explanation about the firm selection (motivation of the case study),
Impacts of the findings from the case study, Quality of discussion issues, Supporting
materials
} Presenters use appropriate presentation skills. (30%)
} Looked practiced and organized, Overall Time, Submission of PPT before the presentations
in time, Power to attract audience, Spoke loudly and clearly and had good eye contact
} It appears that the presenters put a lot of effort into this presentation. (20%)
} Extra credit: entertaining factor with a creative format or extraordinary efforts
} e.g., TV program format, drama format, News interview, etc.
} Discount: poor validity and reliability of contents

} Grading
} Absolute evaluation
} Evaluation by classmates (min: 1, max: 6) + extra score or discount by the instructor
} 4.70 ~ 6.00 à 100%
} 4.20 ~ 4.69 à 90%
} 4.00 ~ 4.19 à 80%
} 3.99 ~ 3.00 à 70%
} 2.99 ~ 2.00 à 50%
} The submitted evaluations will be filtered by the instructor, and outliers will be removed.

Team Project Assignments (TPA)
} The purpose of this assignment is to help you apply what you
learned in lectures to real-world business problems.
} The team project is about a (imaginary) business (e.g., restaurant)
run by your team
} Two components of the project assignment
1. Develop business model
2. Design database for your Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Systems
}A presentation for each team will be delivered at the end of the
semester
} Grading
} Evaluation by classmates (80%) + Evaluation by the instructor (20%)

Individual Assignment 1: One-page write-up
} Submit a pdf version onto eTL.
} Deadline: 11:59 PM on Mar. 13 (Mon)

Use of Nameplate
} Interactivity
between the instructor and students or
among classmates is important in this class

} It
is required to display your name plate in front of
you
} If not, your APE point will be discounted (-2)
} Turn in your nameplate after each class, if not your APE point will be
discounted (-2)

Manners and Student Codes in Classroom
} Will fail the course if you are involved in any cheating
or plagiarism
} Discount in participation/etiquette points if you
} Show bad etiquette/courtesy in class, which distracts instructors or
students
} Leave or enter the classroom in the middle of class without legitimate
excuses (ex. Phone)
} In offline sessions, Internet search is not allowed unless it is allowed for
class activities
