Michael Carter Jr., age 14, was born and raised in the Twin Cities.

He has spent most of his years in the suburb of Woodbury, Minnesota. Along with being a musician, he is a standout on the basketball court and academically. He is the son of Cheryle and Michael Sr. and has one older sister, Kelsie. Michael began piano lessons at the tender age of 5. His sister, who was nine years old at the time, was taking piano lessons and Michael did not want to be left out. The music teacher did not want to give lessons to someone so young. But after meeting Michael and seeing his musical ear and maturity, she decided to take him on as a student. Michael is a pianist that plays mainly by ear, but has worked hard to improve his sight reading and playing. In his nine years of taking lessons, he has studied classical, R&B, jazz, blues and gospel. He has also played on his school band for the past 6 years. Michaels main instrument is piano. However, he is an accomplished drummer and has played the saxophone for the school band. In 2010, Michael realized that he enjoyed composing songs. With the help of todays computer technology, Michael has found that he is a stronger composer than pianist. He began developing his album in early 2012 and completed it in July, 2013. His band is called THE FUTURE. It is a virtual band that consists of live and computer generated musicians. It is truly the wave of the future. His album is self-titled, Michael Carter Jr. & THE FUTURE. The music rocks you with deep bass lines with piano and saxophone melodies. His music is best positioned as contemporary jazz with strong R&B and Hip Hop influences. However the music is classified, it is all about the love of music and a promising future for a young African American. He represents our nations future!!
