PAKISTAN FOOD BANK 2013

The Lady Fatemah (AS) charitable Trust (LFT) based in the UK and the Madinatul Ilm Charitable Trust (MICT) in Pakistan have together successfully completed a new project to provide food support to some of Pakistans most impoverished families. By end June 2013, we had successfully distributed food packs containing rations of high protein lentils and rice to approximately 10 thousand families. This effort was driven by the ambition to enable impoverished families to put sufficient food on their tables, not only during the month of Ramadan but going forward too. Towards this end, LFT has generously made an initial contribution of high protein lentils and vermicellis worth approximately U$50,000.00. Through subsequent assistance, LFT provided financial assistance to add ten thousand bags of high nutrition Basmati rice, each weighing 2 kgs. In the coming year, we hope to build up further on this vital project. Our hope is to use this effort to help some of the millions of at least half starved Pakistanis to afford gaining a minimum level of subsistence. As well as the obvious hunger resulting from an empty stomach, there is also the hidden hunger of micronutrient deficiencies which makes individuals susceptible to infectious diseases while also impairing their physical and mental development. Please

donate generously to help build up this noble effort at a time when low income Pakistanis are suffering as never before. LFT-MICT FOOD DISTRIBUTION IN PROGRESS

MICT-EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM MICTs educational projects encompass all matters pertaining to education. MICT has provided support for vocational as well as formal education, regardless of age, gender, or location. During the period under review, MICT disbursed more than Rupees three million for the cause of education.
This included an expenditure of approximately Rupees 878,810.00 generously donated by LFT to finance a three months training camp in Islamabad for teachers from schools across the Gilgit-Baltistan province. The purpose was to bridge the gap between the current knowledge of these teachers and their future needs. Consequently, more than four thousand students taught by these teachers stand to gain. Additionally, a special training camp was held in Islamabad in continuation of the first such summer camp of 2011 which allowed a selected group of students from Gilgit-Baltistan to gain from special tutorials in preparation for their college entrance exams. Also sponsored by LFT, this camp saw students attain between 85 per cent to 94 per cent marks which enabled them to enter professional colleges such as medical and engineering universities in Pakistan. These activities continued along with our support for individual students in need.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN PROGRESS

MICT-MICRO FINANCE PROGRAM

Food parcels and handouts offer temporary respite from hunger. However, unless people are given the means to lift themselves out of their impoverishment, temporary aid will eventually run out leaving the recipients dependent upon further support. MICT`s micro finance program has so far enabled more than 200 individuals across Pakistan to stand on their own feet and support their families. During the year under review, MICT actively continued to search for impoverished individuals who were able and willing to use small grants for establishing businesses at the grass roots. During the year under review, we selectively continued with this program mainly in the northern parts of the Punjab province. BENEFICIARIES OF MICRO-FINANCE PROGRAM

MICT- PATIENT WELFARE PROGRAM

As part of our activities, MICTs work seeks to support patients in need. In a country where healthcare facilities are inadequate, patients in financial distress must cope with a variety of challenges. Through our network of volunteers and staff members, MICT seeks to reach out to patients in need of care and treatment. During the year under review, MICT disbursed more than Rps 2.43 million to patients in need of financial assistance. Notable among these cases was the case of Zehra Khatoon, an 11 year old who lost both of her arms in a tragic accident. Through the generous support of LFT, MICT raised approximately one million Rupees to facilitate the installation of a bionic arm. Today, Zehra Khatoon is back at school in her native Gilgit-Baltistan region and adjusting to life at home. PATIENTS IN DISTRESS SUPPORTED BY LFT-MICT
