Abstract
Weight reduction is an important issue and big challenge for automotive industries. For accomplishing
such goals various innovations in different related field have been introduced. Among manufacturing
methods in recent five years the sheet hydroforming process has received much attention because of it
inherent capabilities. Hydroforming advantages have been revealed from few researches work and for
getting more insight about the capabilities of sheet hydroforming for production of complex shapes
more researches must be carried out. In the present paper designing procedure and results of
experimental investigation of hydroforming process for production of a complex autobody part will be
presented. First of all initial blank shape and size has been calculated using one-step inverse finite
element. Then by using a commercial finite element software the hydroforming has been simulated. In
the simulations the effect of various parameters such as shape of tools, hydroforming pressure and
initial blank size on the distribution of strain and depth of deformed part has been evaluated. The
results of simulation have been evaluated by experimental tests.
