Title PIPE THREADS - IS: 554 (BSP, THREADS - BS: 21)

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The standard was first issued in 1955. It was reviced in 1964 consequent to preparation of a separate specification for pipe threads for fastening purposes. The current revision has been necessitated due to ISO/R7 Pipe threadas for gas first tubes and normal fittings where pressure tight joints are required on the threads 1/8 inch to 6 inch being revised on which this standard is based. In this standard a new method of designating the internal and external pipe threade, which has been internationally accepted, has been incorporated and this method is different from that given in the 1964 version of the standard. Oeuges for pipe threads covered in Appendix B earlier are being covered in a separate standard (which is under preperation). The pipe threads covered in this standard are for use with gas list tubes as well as those of cocks, vaived and other fittings to be connected with gas list tubes where pressure tight joints are made on the thread. Both internal taper to external taper joint and internal parallel to externel taper joints have been covered in the standard. For pressure tight joints on the threads, external taper threads specified in this standard can also be used with the internal pipe threads specified in IS: 1964 Dimensions for pipe threads for fantening purposes provided such theads are not truncated. In the preparation of this standard assistance has been derived from BS-21. Pipe threads issued by the British Standards institution.
