Govalle Robotics Team

We are a team of 4th and 5th graders from Govalle Elementary. Our team represented Govalle as the first public elementary school in East Austin to take part in the FIRST Lego League tournament (20122013).

Who are we? Govalle Elementary is an inner-city school located in East Austin. We are a Title I school. Over 90% of our student body qualifies for the Free/Reduced Lunch program. What do we do and why we do it: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is the Signature Program of the Eastside Memorial Vertical Team. We teach STEM through Robotics at Govalle. Robotics is designed to get children excited about STEM and teaches them valuable employment and life skills. We are a team. We honor the spirit of friendly competition. What we discover is more important than what we win. We display Gracious Professionalism and cooperation in everything we do, but most importantly, WE HAVE FUN!!! What we have done: During the 2012-2013 school year, our rookie team found success at the Qualifying Tournament in December 2012. Out of 23 schools, we placed in the top 9, receiving a Golden Ticket inviting us to the Regional Tournament in February 2013. How you can help: After our first years experience, we know that it will take $3,000 to run a successful program. Your donation will go toward: LEGO Robotics kits, transportation costs, tournament entry fees. For more information, see the back of the flyer. Because we are a political subdivision of the state, we are a tax-exempt organization. Your donation is tax deductible as a charitable contribution. Your donation can be sent to: Govalle Elementary ATTN: Lana Stone, Robotics 3601 Govalle Avenue Austin, TX. 78702
