    What is baluta system?

    Answer: Earlier, baluta system was practiced in rural parts of maharashtra. It was based on interrelationship among various groups. Each groups was assigned a specific occupation. There were 12 balutedars and the reward paid for these balutedars was called "baluta" or "mehentana". In northern India, baluta system was known as "jajmani system".
