How did Rome become important in the Catholic Church? _Rome became important because the Emperor became a Christian and gave power to the Christian Church. Therefor after his death Christianity was still practiced and regarded highly.

What is Lay Investiture? -When people who do not belong to the Church were involved in affaires that only church officials should be concerned with.

What did King Philip IV of France believe that Pope Boniface refused to do? -The King at that time wanted the clergys to pay taxes which he believed that Pope Boniface refused to pay.

Who was Charlemagne? -Charlemagne was a ruler of the Frankish kingdom who would be later crown as the Emperor of Rome who had great success with the people because of his sense of leadership and because he enforced his rules.

What role did Monks play in the Church? -Monks played the roles of copying and preserving important religious manuscripts.

What is the Babylonian Captivity? 1309-1377 -It was a time period in were the papal capital in Avignon was called the Babylonian Captivity, named after the Hebrew captivity in Babylonia. What was the Western Schism? -It was when there two popes one French and one Italian and neither one wanted to interact with each other. The church was divided in two. What were some of Charlemagnes beliefs? -Charlemagne believed that education and religion were very important Reflection Question: In your opinion, should the middle Ages be called "The Dark Ages"? Explain your answer.

-Most people call the middle ages the dark ages probably because of all the controversy going between the church and the people but I wouldnt call it dark, I would call it the age of enlightenment because at that time people had a choice to see which side was bad or not. They saw who was on their side they saw how the church was powerful.
