Pixis: Hm, you're as stiff as they say. We merely ran into each other by chance during our morning walks. Now that we're already walking, we might as well chat. Have you heard that the Police are also after Eren Jaeger? Erwin: Yes. They sent word yesterday. A trial will be held. Pixis: The decision about whether the Police or the Recon Corps get Eren has been entrusted to Zacklay. Erwin: Zacklay? Do you mean Supreme Commander Dallis Zacklay? Erwin: Yes, sir. *pause* I am Colonel Erwin Smith, head of the Thirteenth Battalion of the Recon corps. Our proposition is as follows: we will accept Eren as a formal member of the Recon Corps, and recapture Wall Maria by using his Titan power. *quick pause* That is all. Dallis Zacklay: Mm? Is that it? Erwin: Yes. Using his abilities, we can retake Wall Maria. I believe the priorities are clearly apparent. --(Chapter 21 of the SNK manga (roughly episode 15 in the anime, though the episode is not out yet as of the writing of this script), Erwin gives a speech to all those interested in joining the Recon Corps) Erwin: I'm the commander of the Recon Corps, Erwin Smith. The Recon Corp has an important objective behind its activities, entrusted to us by the king. Our objective is what I just stated, but now that we can't use the gate of the Trost district anymore, we only have the option of departing from Karanese and advancing to Shiganshina in a roundabout way. The path, suitable for a large force, that took us 4 years to break, is now lost. In those 4 years, over 90 percent of the Recon Corps members died. 90 percent in just 4 years. *pause*

Erwin: According to our most optimistic estimates, we'll have to sacrifice at least 5 times more soldiers and 20 more years before it will be possible to dispatch a large force to Wall Maria again. And even these figures aren't quite realistic. *pause* Erwin: The Recon Corps is always in search of talented members. With great losses after every mission, we constantly suffer from personnel shortage. I'm not going to hide anything from you. those of you who will choose to join the legion will have to participate in a scouting expedition out the walls in one month from now. There's a pressing need to break a supply route. The probability or new recruits dying during an expedition to the outer lands was 50 percent, I think. Those who manage to survive it, though, will become excellent soldiers with a high survival rate. Those of you who are still willing to put your life on the line despite learning about the dreadful state of affairs, stay here.
