PRE-LAB PROJECT: CREATING VIRTUAL APPLIANCES

1. Go to http://downloads.vmware.com. Choose VMware Player under Desktop Downloads.

2. Choose the Download button.

3. Fill in the registration information.

4. Download the current version of VMware Player for your operating system (V3.14 in this case) and install it on your computer.

vi

5. After you have installed VMware Player, you will need to download the Demonstration versions of Windows 7 at http://technet.microsoft.com/ en-us/evalcenter/cc442495.aspx. Note that this download will only be available for a limited time.

vii

6. Download the Windows 2008 Server at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx? FamilyId=13C7300E-935C-415A-A79C-538E933D5424&displaylang=en. Be sure to choose the 32-bit version.

In both cases you will have to create a Windows ID to be able to access the downloads. You will now create two virtual appliances (virtual machines) using the VMware Player.
