Centuries of violence and witchcraft

The lives of millions of people in the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo) have forever been changed through its history of violence. Beginning in 1998, The Second Congo War is the deadliest war in modern African history; lasting over 5 years. It is also the deadliest conict worldwide since World War ll. The violence has continued after the conclusion of the war in 2003 with the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) and numerous other rebel groups ghting for control of the country. THE WAR AND ITS AFTERMATH HAS KILLED 5.4 MILLION AS OF 2008 Growing violence has greatly diminished the missionary presence in the DRC (essential to the church planting and growth). Centuries of ghting and greed, as well as age old traditions of witchcraft and tribalism have all contributed to the barriers that now exist in sharing the Gospel. MAF has been busy ying Congolese Church leaders around the DRC where they host redemption clinics; sharing the gospel of Christ and helping in the reuniting of families and reconciliation among tribes. One testimony was written in an MAF magazine called Flightwatch At one reconciliation march in Bunia, some militia members shared their testimonies and expressed sorrow and regret over what they had done. They asked the people for forgiveness, sharing about how Jesus was transforming their lives and eliminating the violence.

We couldnt be in the DRC without MAF. As MAF restored ser vice in Western DRC, so ha ve we. We follow your plans and air planes. Without MAF, our mission in the Congo would be extremely difficult.

It has been a busy summer for the Hensens

The past couple of months since our last newsletter have been full of some pretty amazing testimonies and examples of Gods provision. We have had the honor of speaking in numerous churches so far this summer; from Cambridge to Shelburne and many places in between. We have had the opportunity to not only share our testimonies but also our hearts and the heart of Mission Aviation Fellowship. Although public speaking is not the easiest thing for us, we love the opportunity to share our passion with

others and to meet those who also desire to make a difference in the lives of the isolated people of the world. It has been encouraging (to say the least!) to meet so many like-minded people and we can hardly wait to see what this fall has in store for us!
