Educator Excellence Award (EEA)

A Concept for a Supplemental Individual Excellence Award to the Warrington Middle

School Incentive Plan

Discussion/Rationale:

The current plan for incentive compensation for the reconstituted staff at Warrington
Middle School is very good; however, there is little (if any) compensation in the plan that
rewards significant individual achievement. Group awards are a good idea, however
adding an individual achievement bonus to the group reward plan can and will motivate a
majority of teachers to reach even higher and work even harder to achieve this additional
recognition and monetary compensation.

I would like to propose that a small amount of money be set aside, out of the nearly
$750,000.00 pool of money contemplated for Warrington Middle School teacher bonus
pay, to compensate individual instructors. Individual instructors at Warrington Middle
School who demonstrate excellence deserve to be recognized and rewarded for going
above and beyond by driving higher than average student achievement within their
individual classrooms. (Criteria to be determined by district staff, and identified prior to
the start of the school year)

Implementation:

Perhaps it could be a small scale program in year one, growing slightly in year two--with
a small percentage of the top performing instructors being rewarded as follows:

Year One, 2009-2010, Educator Excellence Award (EEA) Cost $13,000.00

Top 20% -approximately 13 teachers— (based upon learning gains made in their
individual class) receive an additional $1,000.00 bonus. (in addition to all other
achievement/incentive awards)

Year Two, 2010-2011, Educator Excellence Award (EEA) Cost $30,000.00

Top 30%-approximately 20 Teachers---(based upon learning gains made in their

individual class) receive an additional $1,500.00 bonus. (In addition to all other
achievement/incentive awards)

Cost:

$43,000.00 over two years, or just under 6% of the total incentive pool budget.
