variationsofthisclassiceffect.
Controls
TONE:Thiscontrolmixesbetweentwolowpasstypefilters.
FUZZ:Theoverallfuzzeffectcontrolledbyavariableresistorinthesignalpath.
VOL:Theoutputlevel.
BIAS:ThistrimmerallowsyoutotweaktheoutputofQ3.
Notes
AmatchedTonebendersetofgermaniumtransistorsisrecommended.Thesecanbe
purchasedfromSmallbearorsimilarsuppliers.Smallbearusuallysupplieseitheralistorsetof
resistorsthatcorrectlybiasthetransistorsinastandardTonbendercircuit.Feelfreetousethe
valuessuppliedinsteadoftheoneslistedintheBOMofthePastyFace,ifyouprefer.
ThedefaultsetupforthePastyFaceisPOSITIVEGROUND.IfyouareusingPNP
germaniums,makesuretouseapositivegroundwiring,i.e.connecttheblackleadofthe
batterytotheround9vpad,andtheredbatteryleadtothesquaregroundpad.
Alternatively,youcanusethemadbeanpedalsRoadRagetopowerPNPfuzzusingthe
standardcentertipnegativepowersupply.ConsultthedocumentationfortheRoadRageon
theProjectsPageformoreinfo.

NPNtransistors,suchastheBC109or2n3904,besuretoflipthedirectionoftheelectrolytic
caps,flipD2,ANDreversethebatteryleadsforanegativegroundwiring.Youcanalsoomit
D1fromanyNPNTonebender.
ThePastyFaceallowsyoutouseeitheraxialorradialfilmcapsforC1,C4,C5andC6.Radial
spacingis5mm.Axialspacingis18mm.
TheBIAStrimmerallowsyoutotweaktheoutputofQ3.Simplyadjusttotasteusingthe
minimumandmaximumsettingsontheFUZZcontrolasyourguide.
