QUESTION

Define the following terms; Robotics, Computer Aided Manufacture(CAM), Just-In-

Time, Material Requirement Planning(MRP).
Robotics

Robotics is derived from the Czech word robota meaning “compulsory labour”

Its a self governing programmable electronically device used in industry and in

scientific research to perform a task.

Robotics refers to the design and use of robots. It is the science and technology related
to computer controlled mechanical devices such as automated tools commonly found
in automobile assembly lines.

This is used in increasing quality of the products and consistency of work where
they perform more quickly, cheaply and accurately than human in conducting set
routines.

Computer Aided Design(CAM)

The process by which computers are employed to enhance the manufacturers

and development of products more quickly, accurately, and with reduced cost by the
appropriate application of computer technology ;where as it provides greater
manufacturing flexibility as they allow companies to respond quickly to market
demands and new product development.

Just- In -Time (JIN)

Its the manufacturing system which deal with the manufacturing and stock control
system in which goods are produced and delivered as they are required ;Its designed
to eliminate waste and avoid the need for large stocks.

Material requirement planning (MRP)

Its a software based production, planning and inventory control system used to
manage manufacturing process; its not common now days because its functions can be
conducted by hands as well.

Its designed to attain three main objectives such as material and products are
available for production and delivery to customers, maintain lowest possible level of
inventory and planning manufacturing activities, delivery schedules and purchasing
activities.
