Writing is extremely limited in communicating knowledge and lacks organization and a central theme. Writing is underdeveloped with few, if any, transitions. Writing is confident and clearly focused. Relevant details enrich writing. Writer uses effective and engaging word choice with strong transitions and a focused closing. Writes with a distinct, unique point of view. Uses consistent agreement between parts of speech. Minimal, if any, errors in mechanics.

While the writing is logical and well organized there may be problems with compositional inaccuracy. While there are problems with mechanics they are not distracting. Organization is sufficient and the response is adequate for the prompt.

Even though the writing is thoughtful and the prompt has been addressed, there are serious problems with organization. Compositional inaccuracies are distracting to the reader and there are errors in logic or analysis.
