Level five: Syntax, combination of words. The s indicates the third singular person. Example: She learn Spanish. This sentence is ungrammatical because the verb must to finish with s. The correct sentence should be She learns Spanish. Level six: Semantics, word meaning. Synonyms: ascertain, get word, memorize, study. Example: She learns Spanish She studies Spanish Antonymous: Teach. Example: She learns Spanish She teaches Spanish.

2. Study {s} in these words: 1. Teaches. 2. Reads. 3. Writes. b. What does {s} indicate? The {s} indicates the third person singular. c. Does the phonological shape {s} change? Explain why or why not.

According to the phonology the sound changes with the different sounds. In the first example we use this sound after sibilants, in the second after voiced sound and the third after voiceless sounds. d. Is it the job of the phonologist or the morphologist to explain what is happening? It is the job of phonologist to explain the changes into the sound and it is the job of the morphologist to explain that the {s} indicates the third person singular.

3. Study these sentences: She speak English fluently. She speaks English fluently. -Which sentence is deviant? The first one is deviant because of the end of the verb. -Is {s} obligatory or optional? Say why. It is obligatory, because the third singular person needs always an s at the end. -In this case, there is a fusion of two linguistic levels, what are they? They are phonology and morphology.
