Start with simple pin-out diagrams of the two types of UTP (unshielded twisted pair) Ethernet cables.

Straight cables are used to connect two different natures of devices like PC to HUB, PC to SWITCH etc. because there transmitter and receiver points are opposite and simply connected through straight cable like TX1 to RX1 etc. as shown in diagram.

Cross cables are used to connect two similar devices like pc to pc, switch to switch because they have similar transmitter and receiver points on both sides. There for we need to connect their Tx1 ping to Rx3 pin as shown in diagram.

Note: In Ethernet 4, 5, 7 and 8 pins are not used. If we apply color code then our pin-out looks like this.
