Preliminary Solid Works Drawing Description

The preliminary Solid Works drawing is contained on the Team 3 folder of PBworks. It shows the design with some yet to be finalized dimensions. The flat surface (14x8 inches) will have the motor and gearbox mounted; the rod from the gearbox will then connect to a wheel which is connected to a rod, of length 12 inches. The rod runs along each side connecting to a pin. This second rod is then connected to a set of two additional wheels. The placement of the rod and wheels will determine the stride length of the mechanical robot, the current stride length allows for the robot to clear an object of height 1.25 inches. Changing this will allow the robot to take a longer or shorter stride and to be further optimized for the obstacle course. Each wheel will have a hinged leg attached (Currently the hinged aspect of the legs has not been implemented, and has yet to be determined). The legs have a slider which allows it to freely move along the entire desired stride length, the slider dimensions may change during the final design based on the addition of hinged legs. The wheels are all currently 4 inches in diameter, for a total of 6 wheels of equal dimensions. The length of each leg currently is 6 inches, for a total of 8 equal with equal dimensions. Having various parts of equal dimensions will speed up the building time and reduce the amount of unknown variables that would be introduced during construction. As yet to be determined is a final footing for each leg. The current idea is a rubber type of surface to allow a

maximum grip with the floor, but this will be one of the final variables to be implemented. Various footing can be tested when the robot body and legs are finalized. A final addition could be made to the front of the body, this would be used for the sumo completion to push or move the other robots outside the area and allow our robot to be victorious in the competition.
