Condition Monitoring In Equipments at Thermal Power Plants Condition Monitoring plays a vital role today, Reliablity of power plants

depend upon N-Number of Equipment present in a Power Plant. It is a major component of predictive maintenance. It Monitors the parameters of machinery (Temperature, Vibration) in order to predict any failure of the equipments in future. In order to make a Power plant reliable from Breakdowns Condition Monitoring needed to be carried out on certain equipments. The main Condition Monitoring done in any thermal Power plant for equipments are 1. Thermography 2. Vibration Monitoring

1. Thermography The Thermography detects the light infrared in electromagnetic spectrum and records it. These are called thermo grams. From Thermo gram we can infer the amount of radiation emitted and based on that we can calculate the heat emitted from the surface.

2. Vibration Monitoring Vibration of any rotating equipment can take place In course of time due to mis- alignments, Bearings etc. In order to obtain the clear picture of equipments vibration Monitoring is done with Vibration analyzers. These analyzers use the seismic (or) piezo principle to obtain the vibration on running equipments.

Let us have a quick look of the equipments where above condition monitoring to be done. 1. Thermography in Thermal Power plant Equipments 1. Motor Terminal box 2. Modules supplying power to the Motor 3. Transformers 4. Switch yard Equipments etc

2. Vibration Monitoring in Thermal Power plant Equipments 1. Motors (Drive end and Non Drive End) 2. Pumps (Drive end and Non Drive End)

3. Induced Draught Fans 4. Forced Draught Fans 5. Primary Air Fan Etc.
