CASE 1: GEN Y IN THE WORKFORCE

INTRODUCTION
Josh, a passionate movie maker, and Sarah, Joshs diligent boss, are busy with promotions of their film, Fire Force Five series. Josh, being an enterprising and a creative individual, wasnt convinced with the traditional marketing strategies being employed and wanted to try something new but due to Sarahs adamant nature, he wasnt able to succeed. Upon rejection, he approached the CEO without Sarahs permission. But when she got to know about all this, she summoned Josh.

ISSUES
-TAKING AN ORTHODOX ROUTE The youth in todays date look for creativity in their jobs. So, if they are made to think in a conventional manner, they tend to become a little low on morale and are not as motivated to perform as they would have been if they had the freedom to think. In the context of our case, when Josh was asked to prepare a report, he put in a half-hearted effort.

-LACK OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN BOSSES AND THEIR SUBORDINATES Generally, bosses like their employees to follow their edicts blindly. Because of Sarahs adamant nature, Josh was unable to express his ideas and thus, was forced to bypass her and talk to the CEO without informing her.

-FEAR OF FAILURE WHILE INNOVATING There is a clich that If a thing is successful once, it will be successful again. This makes some people feel reluctant in trying new things as they fear that they might fail. So, Sarah was hesitant in implementing Joshs ideas and was insisting to go forward with traditional strategies.

-MONOTONOUS WORK People get bored if they are asked to do the same work every day and are not willing to put in their hundred per cent. In the case, Josh was also asked to do similar type of tasks by Sarah without any creativity due to which Josh stopped enjoying his work.

RECOMMENDATIONS: HOW CAN JOSH AND SARAH WORK TOGETHER MORE EFFECTIVELY?
-Josh should take Sarahs approval before any critical action. -Periodic Counselling sessions should be conducted. -Sarah should acknowledge Joshs ideas so that he feels motivated to think and work harder. -The organization should provide a conducive environment for innovation so that the employees are jubilant about what they are doing. -Sarah should relay Joshs thoughts to her seniors so that Josh doesnt feel ignored.
