Dear Chairman Obey and Ranking Member Lewis:

I am requesting funding for City ofPoughkeepsie Police Department in fiscal year 2010.

The entity to receive funding for this project is:

City of Poughkeepsie Police Department
62 Civic Center Plaza
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

This project will involve enhancing the CCTV camera system and backup 911 center
currently housed by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. The City of
Poughkeepsie installed 5 cameras in the Main Street Corridor in 1996. Since tlle
inception of the project shootings and homicide rates have dropped drastically.
Throughout the years we have updated the system from black and white to color and have
made the transition to digital pictures. Recently, the City has experienced a severe spike
in violent crinle. The City has experienced more shootings in 2008 tll31l several other
same sized cities combined. The robberies being committed are being done so Witll a
handgun or threat of use of a h31ldgun. Even though various en1l31lcements were made,
there are further upgrades which need to be made so that tlle system is brought up to date.
