Similarities and Differences of Survival

In literature class, we read two survival stories. One was a real survival story called Lost

Trail, and the other was a fiction survival story called Hatchet. One big comparison of Donns
story Lost Trail and Brians Story Hatchet is bugs affected them both. Brian was bitten by mosquitos and other bugs but was able to stop it by building a fire; Donn was also affected by mosquitos but was never able to make it stop. Another comparison of the two books is they both tried to start a fire. Donn tried to make a fire by rubbing a knife and a metal bar together but was not successful; Brian tried to make a fire by using the hatchet and was successful. A main contrast in Brians book and Donns book was shelter. Brian made a shelter and stayed in the area where he was lost, but Donn did not make a shelter and followed a stream instead of staying put. Another big contrast was equipment that they had when they were lost. Brian had the hatchet that he was able to use to help him; Donn did not have anything to start with; he found a knife but threw it away and was not able to do very much. Overall, I liked Hatchet better than Lost Trail. The story was more interesting and more fun to read.
