What Does This Mean?


The Proposed FNEA will:
Extinguish our inherent jurisdiction it takes away our children; Terminate the Treaty No. 6 agreement to Education; Dissolve federal responsibility and their legal obligations to fund we will have to pay; Give the land(s) and the schools to the province; Allow provinces to dictate control of our schools; Take away control over OUR education system(s); Repeat the residential school era over again - the last time there was National legislation on First Nations Education, it was for residential school. NOT BE A SOLUTION.

What did we have the Day Before Treaty No. 6? We have all our inherent rights, our sovereignty, our freedoms: Land, Language, Governance, Culture, Education, Territory, Health, Housing, and the ability to make Treaties and agreements.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?


The FNEA will likely be included in the October 16, 2013 Speech from the Throne. It is to be Harpers Legacy Piece Harpers Government will attempt to fast track the FNEA to implement it September 2014. They have spent millions in consultation: They say there have been 8 regional consultation sessions, more than 30 video and teleconference sessions, and an online survey. WHY? 1. Demand the Honour of the Crown in all dealings with our People. 2. Demand a Bilateral Process with our Treaty Nations - Canada has the obligation to implement Treaties ! 3. Get to know our rights to education and that these are forever as long as the sun shines, the rivers flow, and the grasses grow. 4. Teach our children about our oral understanding of our Treaties. 5. Demand that the oral understanding of Treaties be taught in our childrens schools. 6. Develop our own Nations Education Laws. 7. Organize peaceful protests and rallies and write letters to MPs. 8. Educate settlers about why we are Treaty Rights Holders to our own schools and education system(s).

What did we have the Day After Treaty No. 6? We kept all of our rights: Land, Language, Governance, Culture, Education, Territory, Health, Housing, and the ability to make Treaties and agreements. The Queen guaranteed that our Peoples would have access to and education including a school house and a school teacher, if we so desired it. We never gave up our ability to determine the kind and level of education we want for our children and future generations.
