This summer, I was intern at Pakistan Tobacco Company, Jhelum Factory. PTC is making cigarettes under the license of British American Tobacco. PTC started its operations in 1947. Throughout these 67 years, PTCs continuous investment in people, brands, technology, innovation and the communities in which PTC operate has borne fruit in many ways by achieving certain standards like: 5S: The Company acquired 5S certification in 2007. 5S is a list of five Japanese words translated in English as, Sort, Straighten, Sweep, Standardize and Sustain. EHS (Environment, Health and Safety): Company bagged ISO14001 certification related to Environment and OSHAS 18001certification concerned with Health and Safety. ISO 9000: PTC certified, ISO 9000 family of standards is related to quality management systems. Six Sigma: Company is following Six Sigma, seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. And yet, Company achieved a Green Belt in Six Sigma. MRP: MRP (Managing, Resourcing, and Planning) are main functions that the organization is focusing for quality assurance to International standards. i.e. MR II classic certification. Poka-Yoke, One Point Lesson (OPL) and Kaizen: Company is following Poka-yoke, which helps workers and processes work right the first time. Company is also following OPL. It is (normally take less than 15 minutes) lesson one topic on One sheet- means only One Point illustrated on a sheet of paper, as many senses as possible should be addressed. Company is following (KAIZEN) the Japanese technique that involves every employee and encouraged them to make little changes on regular basis to improve productivity.
