Literature Circles

As part of this course you will participate in a literature circle. This will provide you with an opportunity to discuss a book from a specific culture in detail. The purpose of a literature circle is to help develop a personal response to a text, experience peer sharing, extend comprehension, get involved in discussion, and develop good reading strategies. You will be placed in groups of 5-6. Each member of the group will be assigned a different role. Roles will vary during each meeting of your literature circle. After each Literature Circle you will also turn in a short reflection. This reflection will include your opinion of the text, the personal connections that you made, reading strategies used, what you contributed to the literature circle, and how well your group worked together. These will be collected with your role assignments at the end of each session.
