Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year at Neshaminy High School! Course Overview This years course is driven by the novel. Some American Literature that we will be working with includes, but is not limited to, Ordinary People by Judith Guest, The Crucible and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. Each novel will be an amalgam of analysis, discussion, and writing, supplemented by non-fiction, poetry, and vocabulary. We will also be working on developing vital writing skills and we will complete a research paper in MLA format. It is imperative that students remain focused, motivated and determined throughout the course of the year. The entire year will be spent building essential skills that will allow students to grow as responsible and knowledgeable individuals. Grade Breakdown: Our grades will build cumulatively through the marking period with writing pieces, projects, tests, and homework making up the bulk of the grades. Classwork, in class writing, and participation will also factor in to the grade. One further thing Eleventh grade is a major event in high school SATs, future education and career planning, etc. As such, the expectations are high in both writing and reading comprehension. I have, and will continue to discuss the expectations, motivation, and value of pushing themselves throughout this year. I am fairly easy to reach via email, and look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for coming out,

Mike Cochran
