Found this issue on both vista and now windows 7...

Resolution in this case: En sure you have all the latest updates from MS and the OEM, open device manager. Remove the battery related devices, usually Microsoft device drivers, you may or may not be able to remove "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" no worries it can remain. Shut the system down. Unplug the AC and boot only with battery, you may see, if in verbose mode, that Windows is updating registry sett ings and performing updates... once at the desktop allow completing any updates occurring at the desktop including any new hardware detections. Once done plug the ac in. You should see the System Tray battery icon animation showing chargi ng now. Worked for me in a half dozen cases on various OEM with Vista and Windo ws 7. Please follow the below steps to install BIOS: - Download the file and unzip its contents to the computer. - Run the BIOS update application from the Windows folder - Follow the prompts to install the update to the BIOS. After installing the BIOS file: Shutdown the computer. Remove the battery for 30 seconds, then reinstall the battery Reboot the computer and press F2 to go into the BIOS Setup Utility. Press F9 to load default configuration. Press F10 to save configuration and exit.
