The control strategy required for an industrial environmental Impact is four step process:

(1) elimination of the problem source or operation, (2) modification of the source operation, (3) relocation of the source, and

(4) selection and application of the appropriate control technology.

Stacks :purpose of tall stacks was todisperse as much of the pollutant as possible over as wide an area as possible. did not always eliminate the problem (200-400m)

Plant Operations :pre-

treating process materials, fuel or material substitution, and changes in the manufacturing process :coal washing; Natural gas and lowsulfur fuel oil; Periodic maintenance

Technology :Control devices can destroy or recover gaseous compounds or particulate matter for proper disposal or reuse. combustion, adsorption, absorption, and condensation (thermal incinerators, catalytic incinerators, flares, boilers, process heaters, carbon absorbers, spray towers, and surface condensers)
