His Life
Russian painter He was born into a wealthy family He studied law at the University of Moscow Started painting when he was 30 Kandinsky moved to Munich to teach art Returned to Moscow in 1914, after the outbreak of World war I

Returned to Germany after the war


When Nazis took power in 1933, Kandinsky moved to France Became a French citizen in 1939 One of his first paintings

His Art
His art was greatly influenced by French impressionist artists.

Believed subject matter played a secondary role to color in his paintings


He used of color to express an emotional experience rather than reflect nature He produced some of the first completely abstract (nonrepresentational) compositions in the history of art His art was inspired by pieces of music. "music is the ultimate teacher," Between 1922 and 1933, geometrical elements became increasingly important He is recognized today as the pioneer of abstract art
