WHY IS

P.D.H.P.E.
IMPORTANT?
P.D.H.P.E. is important as it teaches children to be happy, healthy, responsible and productive people in society. To achieve this, children need to develop the relevant knowledge, skills and values with which to

understand and value themself and others, develop the ability to make
informed decisions in their own lives and create continuous lifestyles of physical activity. (Board of Studies, 1999a)

Information knowledge is integral to learning. However, when used alone, it does not lead to behavioural change. For this reason, the P.D.H.P.E syllabus teaches five essential life skills which support children with abilities they will utilise now and in their adulthood (Board of Studies, 1999a) .
